How to Use Dummy Books |
Firstly pick your project, the following will guide you through the steps used to fill a shelf of a bookcase:
1. Carefully measure the space your want to fill.
In our example each shelf measures 860mm wide (taking the measurement from the inside) and 400mm tall.
2. Go to the Catalogues pages and select the books which will fit into this space.
We have selected the following:
History of
England
200x264mm
English Country
Life
208x385mm
Mr Sponge's
Sporting Tour 212x193mm
Longfellows
Poetical Works 230x1810mm
Total Length =
850mm
Highest Book Panel
= 385mm
3. Before fixing the books to the shelves try placing them in various orders until you find the one most pleasing to the eye.

4. If the shelf is too deep you may want to pad it or secure batons so that the books will rest towards the front of the shelf.
5. Glue the panels into place using Gripfill glue.
Dummy Books can be used for many other purposes than creating false shelves or book cases, such as hiding videos, security appliances, in fact anything that you want to hide away.

Before,
an unsightly cupboard
containing bits of computer
equipment and spares.
After, a door is made for the
cupboard
faced with dummy book panels to give
the look and feel of a very expensive
book case, but this still has all the
functionality of the cupboard.
Book Stands
To
cover up some unsightly objects it is not always necessary to go to the lengths
of creating a faux bookcase as above.
Using metal back plates and velcro stickers to attach the book panels to the back plates you can stand a book panel up to screen off an object and quickly remove it when necessary.
